2 CHP Officers Among 5 Hurt in Whittier Crash
WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 19, 2019) – Five people were injured early Tuesday morning in an alleged DUI crash on the 60 Freeway.
The collision was reported to police about 2:50 a.m. near the 605 Freeway.
Two CHP officers came upon a stopped vehicle on the eastbound side of 60 Freeway. They pulled over to help the driver and a second vehicle traveling eastbound on the freeway struck the CHP patrol car, pushing it into the two CHP police officers and the stranded driver who were standing nearby.
Upon impact, the car spun around and ended up in the middle lanes where it was struck by another motorist.
The five injured people were all transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where the two officers were in stable condition. Two of the injured people suffered major injuries in the crash and were hospitalized.
Police investigating the crash arrested 23-year-old Adrian Estrada of El Monte on suspicion of drunk driving.
