Bicyclist William Camp, 62, Killed in Palm Springs Crash on Gene Autry Trail

PALM SPRINGS (April 15, 2020) – A bicyclist killed after a traffic collision along North Gene Autry Trail on Tuesday afternoon has been identified.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office said 62-year-old William Camp, a resident of Palm Springs, following the accident on April 14.

Deputies affirmed that Camp was riding a bicycle when for an unknown reason a big rig struck him on Gene Autry Trail near Vista Chino and Via Escuela.

According to reports by The Desert Sun and NBC Palm Springs, fire department officials along with the paramedics responded and confirmed that the rider succumbed to his injuries as result of the crash.

The deadly incident took place at approximately 4:05 p.m.  Meanwhile, police added that the driver of the truck stopped after hitting the cyclist and cooperated with the authorities.

Officers forced Gene Autry to shut down between East Vista Chino and East Via Escuela for nearly six hours following the collision. The cause of the tragic accident remains under investigation.
