Suspected DUI Driver in McKinleyville Head-On Crash ID’d as William Cromwell, 29
MCKINLEYVILLE, CA (November 16, 2020) – Authorities detained William Cromwell after a DUI crash that seriously injured a girl in McKinleyville.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 29-year-old Santa Barbara man was under the influence when the wreck occurred on Sunday evening.
The incident happened on November 15 when William Cromwell was driving a 2000 Nissan Frontier west on Sutter Road, approaching Weirup Lane.
CHP said at the same time, a 2007 Jeep Wrangler was traveling east. The Jeep was driven by 29-year-old McKinleyville resident Samantha Blount.
Cromwell then swerved into oncoming traffic. He ultimately slammed head-on into the Wrangler in the intersection, just east of Central Avenue.
Girl, 8, Seriously Injured in Collision at Sutter Road and Weirup Lane
Paramedics responded to the scene and attended to an 8-year-old girl in the Jeep who they believed sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the juvenile to the hospital and found out that she suffered a serious internal injury. An air ambulance took her out of the area for further treatment.
Meanwhile, authorities soon arrested Cromwell and took him into the Humboldt County Jail for felony DUI. The crash is still under investigation.
