Pedestrian, 57, Using Motorized Wheelchair Killed in Crash Involving DUI Suspect
HEMET, Calif. (July 16, 2026) — William Taylor, 57, of Hemet, died Friday night when a suspected DUI driver struck him while riding on his motorized wheelchair along Menlo Avenue in Hemet.
The deadly collision occurred around 8:55 p.m. on July 10th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner press release.
The Hemet Police Department responded to the scene on West Menlo Avenue, roughly 400 feet east of Garfield Street in Hemet, the report said.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident at Menlo and Garfield Avenues
They located the victim down in the roadway with major injuries, and officers began CPR. The victim was taken by an American Medical Response ambulance to Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, where he later died at 9:43 p.m. the same night.
The driver involved reportedly stopped and it was determined the person was under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.
