Man, 22, Killed in Oceanside DUI Crash on North Coast Highway
OCEANSIDE (January 26, 2020) – An alleged DUI collision along North Coast Highway fatally injured a pedestrian early Sunday.
According to reports by San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the fatal accident occurred at about 1:10 a.m. near the intersection of Sportfisher Drive.
Police said a 22-year-old man was crossing North Coast Highway at or near the intersection when a vehicle traveling north struck him.
Suspected Drunk Driver William Vaden, 31, Arrested
Paramedics responded to the scene and found the male pedestrian lying unresponsive in the roadway. Medical personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital where he later died.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver involved stopped after hitting the man.
Officers determined that the motorist, 31-year-old William Vaden, was under the influence of alcohol when the crash took place.
Authorities ultimately arrested Vaden and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility on a misdemeanor charge of DUI alcohol/drugs with a bail set at $2,500. The tragic incident remains under investigation.
