BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2022) —  Willie David Moten, 64, of Bakersfield, died Sunday night in a Bakersfield pedestrian accident while crossing Lotus Lane.

The Kern County coroner identified the Bakersfield man who died just after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday as he attempted to cross the street in a wheelchair outside of a marked crosswalk.

A driver traveling northbound on Lotus Lane struck the victim. The crash happened on Lotus Lane, just south of E. Casa Loma Drive in South Bakersfield, police said.

Paramedics responded and rushed him by ambulance to Kern Medical Center where he later died about 2.5 hours later. Meanwhile, the driver stopped and is cooperating with authorities.

The Bakersfield Police Department is heading up the investigation and will determine fault for the deadly crash. Police do not suspect speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.
