Pedestrians Killed in Car Accident on Scott Road, East of Leon Road
WINCHESTER, California (October 29, 2015) — Two pedestrians were killed and a third pedestrian suffered major injuries early Thursday morning when a driver in a gray Toyota Tundra pickup truck struck them in the 31700 block of Scott Road, a report by the Riverside County Fire Department said.
The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner has identified the victims as Jammie Erwin, 34, of Meniffee, and Mary Pillow, 25, of Winchester. The two women died at the scene of the crash about 1:31 a.m., the report said.
The fatal crash took place at 1:21 a.m. on a darkened roadway with no street lights. Paramedics responded and transported the injured person to a local hospital for treatment, but two of the victims died of their injuries at the scene.
According to KTLA 5 News, there was a group of people leaving a nearby party who were helping an injured teenager who had been involved in an altercation there. It appears they were in the roadway when a driver on his way to work struck the group.
“This is a tragedy for the families of these people and my condolences go out to them at this difficult time,” said Attorney James Johnson. “Police will investigate what happened and determine liability.”
