2-Vehicle Injury Collision on I-8 in Winterhaven
WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2024) — A head-on crash in Winterhaven happened Friday morning on the westbound Interstate 8 Freeway, just west of Buttercup Campground.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on Kumeyaay Highway around 6:35 a.m. on Sept. 20th, in Imperial County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the drivers of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a white Toyota Yaris were involved and both had major front-end damage.
Paramedics responded and located one person with a head injury after the collision.
One of the injured with the last name of Huynh was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center. A second injured person with the last name Rodriguez, was transported by Yuma Fire Department paramedics to Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona.
Meanwhile, tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway and investigators are working to determine fault for the Winterhaven crash on Interstate 8.
