Pedestrian Killed in Crash Near Winton Way and Gerard Avenue
WINTON, CA (November 21, 2022) – A crash killed a pedestrian near Winton Way and Gerard Avenue in Winton.
According to an article published by The Merced Sun Star, the tragic accident took place last week on Friday evening. Officers reported the collision at about 7:12 p.m.
The incident happened on November 18 when a male pedestrian was crossing eastbound Winton Way, north of Gerard Avenue. At the same time, a 2020 Toyota Prius was going north at about 35 mph.
For an unknown reason, the driver of the Toyota failed to see the victim. In the process, the car struck the 73-year-old Winton man walking in a pedestrian crosswalk.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene and soon found the elderly patient down on the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics then rushed the victim to the Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
CHP added that the motorist, 73-year-old Darla Suzanne Peters, stopped and stayed at the site following the incident. Meanwhile, the cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced the area of Winton Way and Gerard Avenue to shut down for a time after the pedestrian accident.
