Pedestrian Killed in Winton Crash on Almond Avenue Near School
WINTON, CA (December 28, 2021) – A pedestrian was killed after a crash on Almond Avenue near a school in Winton.
According to The Merced Sun Star and FOX 26 News, the tragic accident took place on Monday morning. Officers reported the collision at around 6:30 a.m.
The incident happened on December 27 when a male pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart on Almond Avenue in Winton. At the same time, a Chevrolet Silverado was going east at 25 mph.
The California Highway Patrol said the pickup truck then hit the 41-year-old Atwater man. He ended up flying to the south edge of the road near the driveway of the Frank Sparkes Elementary School.

Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene between Cypress Avenue and Winton Way. They found the pedestrian down on the ground as a result of the Winton crash.
Medical personnel soon pronounced him dead. The name of the deceased victim has not been yet release Pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile. CHP affirmed that the 59-year-old Winton man driving the Chevy stopped and stayed at the site after hitting the man.
He told the officers that he failed to see the victim due to the rainy weather and lack of lighting in the area. CHP forced a stretch of Almond Avenue to shut down for a time following the collision.
The cause of the fatal Winton pedestrian incident is still under investigation.
