
Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
SYLMAR, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2023) — An 87-year-old woman was struck and killed in a crash on Foothill Boulevard Thursday night in Sylmar. The deadly collision occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 7th, according to MyNewsLA.
The suspected DUI driver heading northbound in a Ford Fusion reportedly struck a parked car as she was exiting it. The woman died after being thrown from the vehicle onto the ground. The female driver of the parked car suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Fusion continued traveling north on Foothill Boulevard without stopping to help the two victims.
Police eventually caught up with the suspect, Juan Martinez, 33, and arrested him on suspicion of murder due to his previous DUI conviction.
The suspect was booked into jail and held in lieu of $2 million bail, the report said.
The Sylmar crash on Foothill Boulevard remains under investigation.
