3 Residents Served Dishwashing Liquid Instead of Juice
SAN MATEO, Calif. (August 30, 2022) — A 93-year-old woman died and two others were critically injured when they all ingested dishwashing liquid at the assisted living facility, Atria Park of San Mateo.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 27th at the facility located at 2883 S Norfolk Street. A worker at the senior assisted living facility mistakenly served the dish soap to three residents who believed it was juice.
Paramedics transported all three residents to Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame where the 93-year-old woman later died. Meanwhile, the other two other residents remain in critical condition.
Atria Park officials released a statement “We are conducting our own internal investigation, and the employees involved have been suspended until this investigation concludes. We will continue working with the police and Department of Social Services to fully review and assess the incident, after which we will take additional actions as needed. The safety and well-being of our residents remain our top priorities at all times. Out of respect for the people involved, we cannot comment further.”
Police are investigating the incident at Atria Park of San Mateo, but so far there are no criminal charges.
