FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (August 17, 2023) —Madeline Kelly, 34, of Mendota, and her dog were found dead after they were electrocuted from a fallen powerline near San Mateo Avenue, just east of Mendota in Fresno County.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on August 16th near San Mateo Avenue and Highway 180, according to ABC 30 News.
A man found the deceased woman and her pet and called 911 for help, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. It appears that the powerline went down after a fire on Monday in the area of 27900 Whitesbridge in Mendota. The fire reportedly scorched a power pole and weakened it. The pole and wires later fell to the ground. The woman was walking her dog in the area on Wednesday when it was dark outside. She likely did not see the live wires that caused her death, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department.
PG&E responded to the scene and will look into what happened and repair any fallen power lines or poles.
The case remains under investigation. Authorities will need to determine whether the area was properly inspected after the fire and why the wires were no checked properly.
