HOLLISTER, California (December 1, 2016) — A woman suffered serious injuries Thursday morning after she was exposed to lead oxide after a chemical explosion at the Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company, according to a report by NBC News.
Paramedics rushed the woman by air ambulance to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in Hollister for treatment to the hazardous materials. She was listed in serious condition after the 10:40 a.m. explosion. She was exposed to lead oxide and another substance containing lead.
Hazmat crews and firefighters responded to the scene after being alerted to the explosion. The woman was decontaminated at the Hollister plant as well as a second time before entering the Emergency Room, the report said.
The cause of the explosion and liability for the incident is under investigation.
