Aroldo Vela-Chavez, 26, Arrested
PITTSBURG, California (April 19, 2016) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision Tuesday morning on West Leland Road, according to East Bay Times. (map)
The incident occurred at 7:45 a.m.
As per the article, police said a patrol officer initially spotted a blue Camaro traveling at a high speed east on West Leland Road.
The police tried to stop the car, however, its driver sped off and continued into heavy commute traffic, causing the officer to call off the pursuit.
According to East Bay Times, the vehicle then hit a 65-year-old Pittsburg woman identified as Linda Cochran walking along the sidewalk and crashed through the fence at Delta View Golf Course. The suspect fled on foot.
Police affirmed that Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police added the motorist, 26-year-old Aroldo Vela-Chavez, was found and later arrested on suspicion of felony evading, murder and vehicular manslaughter. The Concord man has a suspended license and is on probation for a prior DUI arrest.
