SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2023) — Maria Del Carmen Guevara, 19, of Escondido, died in a crash earlier this month on South Grade Road, just north of State Route 76 in San Diego.
The solo-vehicle collision occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 30th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a 20-year-old Escondido man identified as Jean Ramirez was driving a black Subaru with the Escondido woman with him in the front seat.
The vehicle reportedly went off the roadway and down a hill before it crashed and overturned into a tree.
The 19-year-old woman sustained major injuries and died at the scene. She was later identified by the coroner as Maria Del Carmen Guevara.
However, the driver, Jean Ramirez, survived with serious injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Police later arrested him at the hospital on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the collision should call the CHP at 760-643-3400.
