Woman Struck, Killed by Driver in Crash at Target Center in Simi Valley

Tesla Driver Jumps Sidewalk, Hits Pedestrian, 79, Resulting in Fatality
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (June 30, 2026) — A 79-year-old Agoura Hills woman died in a crash Monday when a driver in a Tesla Model X lost control and hit her on the sidewalk in front of the Urbane Cafe at a Target shopping center in Simi Valley.
She was later identified as Virginia Shields by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
The deadly collision happened at the center located at Tierra Rejada Road and Madera Road around 2:30 p.m. on June 29th, 2026. The collision also left six others, including children, with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
The elderly Agoura Hills woman was reportedly walking on the sidewalk near the cafe at the shopping center when another woman driving a white Tesla jumped the sidewalk and hit her, fire officials said. The car ran over the woman and crashed into chairs and tables outside the cafe.
The pedestrian became trapped underneath the Tesla and suffered severe injuries. The Ventura County Fire Department responded to help six people who were injured in the crash, but sadly, the 79-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four others were treated for minor injuries, including the Tesla driver, Nolvia Buezo, 65, of Thousand Oaks. She was transported to Los Robles Hospital with moderate injuries. One of the three children traveling in the Tesla with the driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Simi Valley Police Department is handling the investigation; however, alcohol or drugs are not factors.
Finally, witnesses are asked to call Simi Valley PD Officer Daniel Muoio at (805) 583-6291, or [email protected].
