Hortencia Garcia de Haro, Vanessa Lasarit ID’d as Crash Victims of DUI Driver
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2024) — Two mothers, identified as Hortencia Garcia de Haro and Vanessa Lasarit, both died after a Bakersfield crash on Planz Road involving a suspected DUI driver.
The deadly crash, which happened on Feb. 9, 2024, also left a third woman with injuries, according to Bakersfield Now.
Authorities say a driver in a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, Arturo Munoz, 25, of Bakersfield, allegedly crashed into a white sedan occupied by three women in the 1900 block of Planz Road.
The driver of the white car, Hortencia Garcia de Haro, died at the scene. Meanwhile, Vanessa Lasarit and a third woman were transported to a hospital. However, Vanessa LasaAll was later declared brain dead the next day at the hospital.
Families of the victims have created fundraisers to cover their financial losses. There is one for Hortencia Garcia de Haro who is survived by two young daughters.
There is a second fundraiser for Vanessa Lasarit leaves behind a 15-year-old son.
Authorities reported the suspect in the SUV was previously convicted three times of DUI in the past six years. He was booked at Kern County Jail on multiple charges including homicide, DUI causing great bodily injury, and DUI with three prior convictions.
