Two Men Injured in Collision on I-5 Near Carmel Valley Road
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2024) — Two Carlsbad men were injured in a fiery, wrong-way crash Monday night on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Carmel Valley Road.
The head-on collision occurred near Torrey Pines around 8:16 p.m. on Nov. 11th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 38-year-old Carlsbad man driving a white Prius reportedly collided head-on with a gray RAV4 SUV driven by a 37-year-old Carlsbad motorist.
Upon impact, one or both vehicles became engulfed in flames in the northbound slow lane of the freeway, according to news reports.
Paramedics and police responded and both drivers were transported to a local hospital due to major injuries from the collision.
Investigators from the CHP San Diego station are working to determine fault for the crash and whether or not drugs or alcohol were factors.
