Wrong-Way Driver Causes Collision on I-880 North in Hayward

Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 880 Freeway in Hayward

Hayward, CA (March 7, 2025) — A wrong-way driver was involved in a Hayward collision early Friday morning on the northbound Interstate 880 near the Tennyson Road on-ramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the traffic accident happened around 3:31 AM when a driver in a gray Honda Civic was seen traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-880. The driver eventually crashed head-on with another vehicle.

The crash gray Honda Civic sustained major front-end damage and a Toyota also had significant damage.

Emergency responders arrived and located at least one person with minor injuries, but there are no further details at this time.

Island Auto Tow and Jack James Tow sent tow trucks to remove the vehicles, the report said.

The cause of the wrong-way collision remains under investigation.

No fatalities have been reported, but the severity of the damage suggests that the drivers involved may have sustained injuries.
