Two Separate Crashes Involving Wrong-way Driver
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (April 29, 2024) — A wrong-way driver collided with five other vehicles Sunday in two separate crashes on the 215 Freeway and the 60 Freeway in the Riverside and Moreno Valley area.
The traffic accident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. on April 28th, according to the California Highway Patrol and The Sun.
CHP officials reported the suspect was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the 215 Freeway, near Eucalyptus Street. That’s where he or she collided with the first two vehicles at the transition road from the westbound 60 Freeway.
Roughly five minutes after the first collision, the suspect kept driving in the wrong direction and entered the westbound 60 Freeway where the vehicle crashed head-on with three other vehicles, police said.
Despite suffering major injuries in the collisions, the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police managed to find the suspect on Day Street, just off the freeway, the report said.
Paramedics transported the alleged wrong-way driver to a hospital and arrested the person on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run as well as driving on the wrong side of the freeway.
There were also three others injured in the crash who were transported to a hospital for undisclosed injuries from the wrong-way driver crash on the 215 and 60 Freeway.
The case remains under investigation as a criminal case, but those hurt may also have a civil claim.
