5 People Injured in Collision on Corona Del Mar 73 Freeway
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 7, 2024) — Three adults and two young children were hospitalized after a wrong-way driver crash early Sunday on the 73 Toll Road near Campus Drive in Newport Beach.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on the Corona Del Mar 73 Freeway at around 12 a.m. on Oct. 6th, according to the Orange County Register.
It’s the second wrong-way driver crash on the 73 Freeway in less than one month. A fatal head-on crash happened Sept. 15 on the same stretch near MacArthur Boulevard.
Wrong-Way Driver Crash on Oct. 6, 2024
A driver of a Toyota Camry traveling on the Toll Road crashed into a southbound Lincoln MKZ, just north of Campus Drive.
There was a mother and her two young children traveling in one of the vehicles who suffered significant injuries.
Paramedics transported all three to a hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, there was a driver and passenger in the Lincoln MKZ who may have also suffered injuries.
It is unclear which vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction at the time of the crash.
However, the California Highway Patrol arrested the wrong-way driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
