Cecilio L. Camacho Critically Injured in Fatal Collision
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2024) — A Santa Maria woman, 53, died, and Cecilio L. Camacho was injured in a crash with a wrong-way driver Sunday on Highway 101 in Santa Maria.
The deadly collision occurred at 5:14 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8th, just south of Betteravia Road, according to Noozhawk.
CHP officials reported a woman driving a 2020 Mazda CX-9 was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 when the car collided with a white 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, just north of Los Alamos.
The pickup truck driver, Cecilio L. Camacho, 63, of Santa Maria, became trapped in his vehicle and critically injured, but unfortunately, his 53-year-old female passenger suffered fatal injuries.
Paramedics from Santa Maria and Santa Barbara County responded and extricated Camacho before taking him to Marian Regional Medical Center.
Meanwhile, the woman driving the Mazda in the wrong direction was also critically injured and taken to a hospital. Kendra Cordova, 34, of Santa Maria, was placed under arrest for DUI following the crash.
The case remains under investigation.
