Three Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Collision on US 101 Near Woodman Avenue

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. (May 24, 2026) | Three people were injured Sunday in a wrong-way driver crash on the Ventura 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks.

The traffic accident, which occurred around 5:51 a.m. on May 24th, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident temporarily shut down lanes near the interchange with Interstate 405 and sent multiple people to area hospitals.

Witnesses reported a driver in a gray or white sedan, possibly a BMW, was traveling northbound in the southbound fast lane.

By approximately 5:55 a.m., CHP and assisting agencies confirmed a collision involving at least three vehicles blocking multiple lanes. Witnesses reported occupants outside of damaged vehicles and walking in freeway lanes following the crash.

All southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway near Van Nuys Boulevard were closed to allow firefighters and paramedics to respond. Also, CHP dispatchers received a telematics alert from a BMW involved in the collision, reportedly capturing crying in the background.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to the scene shortly before 6 a.m. Paramedics transported two people to UCLA Medical Center, and a third injured person was taken to Sherman Oaks Hospital.

It’s unknown at this time whether drugs, alcohol, or impairment were factors in the wrong-way driving incident.

Finally, the crash remains under investigation.
