US Marine Killed in Oceanside Motorcycle Crash is Identified
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (July 19, 2024) — Xander Thorstad, 20, a US Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, died in a motorcycle accident earlier this month on Douglas Drive in Oceanside.
The two-vehicle collision occurred in the 600 block of Douglas Drive and North River Road at around 7:51 p.m. on July 7th, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
The active duty Marine was riding an Indian motorcycle southbound on Douglas Drive when a northbound Volkswagen made a left turn into the AMPM gas station. The car struck the front of the Indian motorcycle, the report said.
Xander Thorstad was thrown off the bike and suffered major injuries. He died within minutes of the crash at the scene.
The 64-year-old Carlsbad woman driving the Volkswagen remained at the scene after calling 911 for help and cooperated with the investigation. However, police ruled out driving under the influence as a factor.
Witnesses may contact Officer Kevin Lissner with OPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team at 760-435-4651.
