Man, 22, Killed; Driver, 20, Arrested on DUI Charges
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (August 28, 2024) — Xavior Atkinson Meadows, 22, died in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver last Thursday night on state Route 76 at Loretta Street in Oceanside.
The solo-vehicle collision occurred at 11 p.m. on August 22nd, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner report.
The young man was a passenger who was ejected from a BMW sedan whose driver lost control and crashed into the center divider of the westbound SR-76, the report said. The vehicle overturned in the collision and Xavior Meadows suffered severe injuries.
Paramedics transported the injured man to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, but he later died early the next day from his injuries.
Meanwhile, the suspected DUI driver, identified as Dejuhan Jones, 20, of Oceanside, was arrested by Oceanside police on DUI-related charges as well as one count of gross vehicular manslaughter.
