Truck Driver Killed in Highway 99 Crash
FRESNO, Calif. (October 5, 2021) – Yingyathaij Lee, 31, Clovis, died early Sunday in a truck accident on Highway 99 near Herndon Avenue.
The deadly crash happened about 2:19 a.m. on Oct. 3rd between the box truck and a Toyota Camry.
The Clovis man died in the traffic accident and three others suffered injuries, according to The Fresno Bee and ABC 30 News.
Prior to the collision, a gray Hyundai Sonata became stalled or stopped in the No. 2 lane. Meanwhile, a driver in a Toyota Camry stopped on the right shoulder and attempted to help the stalled motorist. Next, a white Isuzu box truck driven by Yingyathaij Lee was approaching from behind in the No. 2 lane. As the truck came up behind the stalled Hyundai, its driver swerved to the right into lane No. 3 and then onto the shoulder.
The truck subsequently crashed into the rear of the Toyota.
The impact caused the Toyota Camry onto the dirt shoulder, but the box truck continued traveling before it overturned onto its left side.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed the driver of the truck’s death on scene.
Meanwhile, two passengers from the truck and a passenger in the Camry all sustained moderate injuries. Paramedics transported them by ambulances to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The CHP closed down the northbound lanes of Highway 99 for two hours near Herndon Avenue for the investigation.
Liability for the Fresno crash remains under investigation.
