3 Killed, 2 Hurt in Shafter Car Accident
SHAFTER, CA (October 7, 2020) – Yolanda Gutierrez, 19, of Shafter, was one of three people killed and two injured in a collision at Orange Street and Poplar Avenue in Shafter.
The teenager was driving a Chevy Impala westbound on Orange Street when she reportedly ran through a stop sign and broadsided a Chevrolet Infiniti occupied by a driver and two passengers.
Both the driver of the Infiniti, Juan Gabriel Luna Carranza, 27, of Bakersfield, and his front-seat passenger, Ramon Suastegui Arreola, 27, of Alpaugh, were also killed. However, a second passenger was injured and taken to a hospital.
The car accident was reported about 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5th, according to Bakersfield Now. The California Highway Patrol reported the driver of the Impala was allegedly speeding prior to entering the intersection.
Paramedics responded to the scene where both occupants of the Infiniti died at the scene.
Paramedics rushed Gutierrez and her passenger as well as the second passenger in the Infiniti to Kern Medical with minor to major injuries. Gutierrez later died at the hospital.
The fatal car crash remains under investigation.
