Yuba City Man, 29, Killed in Crash on Hammonton Smartsville Road
YUBA COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2021) — A fatal Yuba County crash happened Tuesday on Hammonton Smartsville Road between a car and a Clark Pest Control truck.
A 29-year-old Yuba City man died and a second man was injured in the fiery two-vehicle crash just outside Beale Air Force Base, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened just east of the Doolittle Gate to Beale Air Force Base.
The deadly crash happened about 7:03 a.m. on Hammonton-Smartsville Road, just east of Doolittle Drive, the CHP Yuba-Sutter Office said.
Driver Crashes into Clark Pest Control Truck
Authorities report the Yuba City man was driving at high speed while traveling eastbound on Hammonton Smartsville Road in a silver 2008 Infinity M35. Witnesses told police officials the car sped past their vehicles as they drove 65 to 70 mph.
Upon entering a curve in the roadway, the driver in the Infinity allegedly lost control of the car and spun out, according to the CHP.
At that point, the Infinity crossed into the westbound lane and it’s back end collided with a westbound Clark Pest Control Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Subsequently, the Infinity caught on fire following the collision and its driver became trapped inside of it. The young man suffered fatal injuries in the collision and died on scene.
Meanwhile, Darrell Drivon, 53, of Grass Valley, who was driving the white pest control truck, suffered undisclosed injuries. He complained of pain after the crash.
Police investigating the crash closed down Hammonton-Smartville for roughly three hours.
Authorities did not release the name of the man who died.
