Zachary Herbert Eureka Fatal Bicycle Accident at Broadway and Cedar StreetsEUREKA (June 27, 2018) – On June 21, Thursday, a bicyclist was struck by a big rig in the area of Broadway and Cedar streets.

According to Times-Standard, 37-year-old Zachary Herbert was riding his bike on the sidewalk that parallels Broadway around 1:34 p.m. When Hebert approached the intersection at W Cedar Street, he was reportedly hit by a 2017 Kenworth truck traveling northbound on W Cedar.

The force from the impact caused Herbert to become airborne, and he reportedly landed in the nearby bus station pullout. The bicyclist was first taken to St. Joseph Hospital, and was subsequently transferred to another hospital.

On June 26, Tuesday, officials said Herbert succumbed to his injuries while being treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Steven Crivelli, 64, Injured in Eureka Bike and Truck Accident

Officials mentioned another person was injured in the accident. 64-year-old Steven Crivelli was in the bus station at the intersection when the collision occurred. As per the article, Crivelli was hit by debris from the incident, and he sustained injuries of unknown severity. The man was also transported to St. Joseph Hospital for medical care.

Meanwhile, the rig operator, 55-year-old David Alber was apparently unharmed in the accident.

Investigators handling the case continue to work to determine the exact cause of the wreck, and liability.
