Zack Gates and Jason Luker Injured in Kern County Crash on Interstate 5
KERN COUNTY, CA (November 3, 2022) – Zack Gates and Jason Luker were injured after a crash on the Interstate 5 in Kern County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the two drivers as victims of the collision which took place on Saturday.
The incident happened when Jason Luker was driving a 2017 Forest River and Zack Gates was behind the wheel of a 2022 Jeep on the northbound Interstate 5.
A 2023 Freightliner was traveling at a high rate of speed in the same direction at the time. The traffic then came to a halt in the first and second fast lanes due to a previous accident.
Speeding Truck Driver Hits Several Vehicles
The driver of the semi-truck, 20-year-old Simranjeet Singh, failed to safely stop. In the process, the Vacaville man struck the rear of two other big rigs and the Forest River.
CHP said the impact pushed the Forest River into the rear of the Jeep and a 2011 Hyundai. The Jeep and the Hyundai ended up forced into multiple other vehicles, north of Twisselman Road.
The Kern Golden Empire and Bakersfield Now wrote that the accident on October 29 at about 10:40 a.m. Jason Luker, Zack Gates and the driver of the Hyundai sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
Paramedics rushed Luker, 52, of Skyomish, Washington to the Kern Medical for treatment. Medical personnel took Gates, of Danville, to the Mercy southwest for further aid.
Meanwhile, officers forced the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 to shut down for several hours after the incident. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
