SANGER, Calif. (June 15, 2023) — Amber Alva, 26, of Sanger, was arrested following a fatal crash on Highway 180, just west of North Bethal Avenue in Sanger.
She is charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license, police said. Her bail was set at $10,000, but she posted a $1,000 bond to get released and is scheduled to appear in court at 8 a.m. on June 29th, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department.
Deadly Crash on Highway 180
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14th in the eastbound lanes of State Route 180, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP dispatch reported Amber Marie Alva was driving a black Dodge Charger when she allegedly rear-ended a Honda Odyssey at high speed. The van was pushed off the roadway and crashed into a tree where it caught on fire after the collision.
The Sanger Police Department and CAL Fire responded to help those involved, but sadly the driver of the Honda died at the scene. Meanwhile, four people from the Dodge Charger suffered undisclosed injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center.
Caltrans closed down Highway 180 at South Indianola Avenue.
Police are piecing together what happened and are conducting an investigation.
