Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 178 Near Ridgecrest

KERN COUNTY, Calif., (Sept. 13, 2026) — A crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle resulted in a fatality on Highway 78 near Pinto Street, just west of Ridgecrest in the China Lake Acres area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred on West Inyokern Road (SR-178) at approximately 7:32 p.m. on Sept. 13th in front of the Buttermilk Acres store and gas station. The crash involved a motorbike and a large SUV, however, it’s unknown what led up to the accident. Emergency units were dispatched, arriving at the scene shortly after being assigned around 7:35 p.m.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision. Authorities are working to notify next of kin.

The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are calling on any witnesses to come forward to aid their ongoing investigation.
