Fatal Motorcycle Crash on I-80, Bay Bridge Toll Plaza in Oakland

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., (May 21, 2026) — A fatal motorcycle crash, possibly involving a Home Depot truck, occurred early Thursday in Oakland on Interstate 80, at the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, according to California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported on May 21st at approximately 5:28 a.m., just west of the Bay Bridge metering lights and involved a motorcycle with saddlebags and another vehicle, potentially associated with Home Depot. The crash resulted in the motorcyclist being downed in lane 2, leading to a full right lane blockage and issuance of a SigAlert for the affected area.

It was the first of two serious motorcycle accidents in the area.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the report at 6:03 a.m. However, the motorcyclist succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.

Authorities have not yet confirmed details about the other vehicle involved, but they are reviewing footage from new traffic cameras in the area to assist in their investigation. The California Highway Patrol is actively seeking witnesses to provide any additional information that could aid their ongoing investigation into the cause of this tragic event.
