Motorcyclist Injured in Crash on Interstate 880, I-80 in Oakland

Major Injury Collision Near Bay Bridge Toll Plaza in Oakland
OAKLAND, Calif. (May 21, 2026) — A motorcyclist was injured in a crash involving a van Thursday morning on northbound Interstate 880 near the transition to the westbound Interstate 80 connector at the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported on May 21st at approximately 7:35 a.m., just south of the Interstate 80 westbound transition, the report said. It happened just two hours after a motorcycle fatality in the area near the toll plaza.
Preliminary CHP logs indicate the crash involved a motorcycle and a maroon van. The motorcyclist was reportedly found lying on the right-hand shoulder following the impact, while at least two lanes were temporarily blocked during the emergency response.
Initial dispatch information described the incident as a motorcycle versus passenger vehicle collision, with the rider ending up in the center divide before emergency personnel arrived. A white Kia Sorento was reportedly stopped in lane No. 2 near the crash scene.
The Oakland Fire Department responded to assist, and fire crews were dispatched shortly after the collision was reported. Tow services were later requested for the damaged motorcycle, which authorities planned to move to an East Bay storage lot.
By about 8:21 a.m., CHP officials had cleared the roadway and closed the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol with information.
