
HOMELAND, Calif. (July 5, 2023) – Julio Leiva, 75, of Homeland, died in a pedestrian accident Sunday on Highway 74 in Homeland.
The elderly man was reportedly struck by a vehicle around 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 2nd in this unincorporated community, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department press release.
Julio Leiva was walking on the westbound side of State Route 74, just west of Leon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Meanwhile, a driver in a Toyota Camry sedan was reportedly traveling at speeds roughly 25 mph above the speed limit for the 4-lane highway.
The motorist reportedly struck the victim due to unknown circumstances.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded shortly afterwards and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported. The driver stopped and cooperated with CHP officers and the investigation. A tow truck removed the damaged Toyota for evidence and the pedestrian accident investigation.
Investigators are working on the case and are asking witnesses to contact the Temecula CHP office at 951-506-2000.
