Aurelio Garcia Sr. Killed in Bakersfield Hit-and-run Crash
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2020) — Joshua Reyes reportedly struck and killed a pedestrian on Mount Vernon Avenue Sunday morning, but he has since turned himself in to authorities.
The driver allegedly killed Aurelio Garcia Sr., 70, as he was crossing Mount Vernon Avenue.
The crash took place just after 4 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11th, according to Bakersfield Californian. Reyes was reportedly driving his vehicle northbound on Mount Vernon Avenue when he hit the 70-year-old man. The man suffered major injuries and died following that collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
However, the driver failed to stop after the accident and didn’t turn himself in to police until 9:30 a.m. that morning.
Joshua Reyes went into the Bakersfield Police Department on Truxton Avenue and was questioned by police. Reyes was confirmed to be the driver at the time of the fatal accident.
The Kern County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the crime and will determine any charges to be filed. Witnesses are asked to call CHP at 661-396-6600.
