Miriam Estrada, 26, Arrested Alleged Hit-and-run Fatality
LOMPOC, Calif. (May 25, 2022) — Shirley Cavazos Juarez, 50, of Lompoc, died in front of her home after being struck by a driver near West Laurel Avenue and North J Street.
The deadly crash occurred about 10 p.m. on Monday, May 23rd, according to the Lompoc Police Department.
The driver allegedly lost control of her vehicle and struck the woman as she arrived home from work on Monday night, police said.
Miriam Aidee Vela Estrada, 26, of Lompoc, was reportedly driving a vehicle fast through the alleyway between the 300 and 400 blocks of North J and North K streets. She lost control of her vehicle as she approached West Laurel Avenue, police said.
The vehicle struck a gas meter and a fence and finally the woman identified as Shirley Cavazos Juarez.
Sadly, the Lompoc suffered major injuries and paramedics transported her to Lompoc Valley Medical Center. She later died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the suspect reportedly fled the scene. Authorities later located her and during the investigation learned that alcohol may be a factor, police said.
Authorities arrested Miriam Aidee Vela Estrada on suspicion of felony drunken driving causing great bodily injury, gross vehicular manslaughter, and felony hit and run.
Police would like nearby residents to check their surveillance cameras and call them at 805.736.2341 if they have footage from Monday at 10 p.m.
