Fatal Santa Paula Bicycle Accident on Santa Barbara Street
SANTA PAULA, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2020) – Matthew Ismael Castanon, 16, of Santa Paula, died following a collision last month while he was riding a bicycle on Santa Barbara Street in Santa Paula.
The traffic collision occurred at about 5:53 p.m. on September 23rd near Blanchard Avenue.
A driver reportedly struck the victim in the 100 block of West Santa Barbara Street.
Fire department officials responded to the scene and found the rider suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The teenager was airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. The boy was transported to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and he remained in the intensive care unit until he died on Wednesday, Sept. 30th, according to the Santa Paula Police Department. He was later identified by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner.
Meanwhile, the driver involved stopped after hitting the teenage victim.
The motorist cooperated with authorities and their investigation into the crash. Witnesses are asked to call the Santa Paula Police Department at 805-525-4474.
