Bertha Smith, 66; and Inga Smith, 47, Seriously Injured in Palmdale Crash
PALMDALE, CA (May 6, 2021) – A fatal crash on 50th Street East seriously injured Bertha Smith and Inga Smith in Palmdale.
The California Highway Patrol identified the two Palmdale residents as the victims of the accident which occurred on Thursday morning.
The incident happened when Bertha Smith, 66; and Inga Smith, 47, were riding as passengers in a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Malibu on 50th Street East in Palmdale.
At the same time, Michael Reinert was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban south. For an unknown reason, the 52-year-old Lancaster man veered into the northbound lane.

CHP said the Suburban then sideswiped the Malibu just north of Avenue P. The Malibu spun out of control and came to a stop in the southbound lane.
A 2011 Toyota Yaris approached and collided with the right side of the Malibu. The Antelope Valley Times and My News LA wrote that the wreck took place at around 3:50 a.m.
Bertha Smith, Inga Smith and the driver of the Malibu sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. The front passenger of their car died at the scene.
CHP added that Michael Reinert and the motorist in the Yaris survived the wreck with major injuries. Paramedics soon took all five patients to the Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fatal Palmdale crash is still under investigation.
