Joey Rios, 26, Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash at Whittier Boulevard and Dorland Place
WHITTIER, CA (September 23, 2021) – Motorcyclist Joey Rios was killed after a hit-and-run crash last year in Whittier.
Police identified the 26-year-old Azusa man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on September 14, 2020.
The incident happened when Joey Rios was riding a motorcycle west on Whittier Boulevard, approaching Dorland Place. At the same time, a vehicle was trying to make a left to Dorland.
Police said the motorcyclist veered in an attempt to avoid collision. In the process, he struck the curb and lost control of his bike in the intersection.
Driver Hits Motorcyclist, Flees Scene in Whittier
The motorcycle rider ultimately crashed into a dollar store nearby. The Whittier Daily News wrote that the accident occurred at about 7 p.m.
Joey Rios died at the scene of the Whittier crash. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the other driver did not stop to render aid to the victim and then fled the area.
Officers described the car involved as a 2005-2008 dark-colored Nissan Xterra. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.
