Daniel Higgins, ID’d as DUI Driver in Madera Crash at Road 36 and Avenue 13
MADERA, CA (February 1, 2022) – DUI driver Daniel Higgins was critically injured after a crash at Road 36 and Avenue 13 in Madera.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 57-year-old Vernon man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Monday.
The incident began when Daniel P. Higgins was driving a 1995 Buick LeSabre east on Avenue 13, approaching Road 36, in Madera. At the same time, a Cal Fire truck was going south on Road 36.
CHP said Daniel Higgins then ran a stop sign at the intersection and hit the fire truck. The 2016 Spartan truck flipped onto its driver’s side as a result of the collision.
2 Firefighters Injured in Wreck
The driver of the fire truck, 34-year-old Madera resident Nicholas Parker, survived with minor injuries. His passenger, 40-year-old James Kirkman, sustained moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed the two firefighters to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, Daniel Higgins ended up suffering from major injuries following the crash.
An air ambulance took him to the CRMC where officials listed him in critical condition. The Fresno Bee and ABC 30 News wrote that the accident took place on January 31 at about 9:52 p.m.
Meanwhile, CHP soon placed Daniel Higgins under arrest on suspicion of DUI. The Madera DUI crash is still under investigation.
