Bicyclist Killed in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Crash Near Union Avenue and White Lane
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 7, 2022) – A bicyclist was killed after a hit-and-run crash near Union Avenue and White Lane in south Bakersfield.
According to the Kern Golden Empire and the Bakersfield Now, the tragic accident took place early Monday. Officers reported the collision shortly after 3 a.m.
The incident happened when a woman was riding a bicycle in the No. 2 lane of southbound South Union Avenue near White Lane in Bakersfield. A vehicle was traveling in the same direction at the time.
The California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, the driver hit the cyclist from behind. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the rider left lying on the ground.
Driver Hits Woman, Flees Scene
She ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel soon pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Her name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the bicyclist and then fled the area.
Officers forced southbound Union Avenue to shut down for an hour near White Lane following the incident. The cause of the fatal Bakersfield hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
