Jose Cabrera, 30, ID’d as Suspect in Visalia DUI Wrong-Way Crash
VISALIA, CA (April 19, 2022) – Authorities detained Jose Cabrera after a fatal DUI crash on Highway 99 near Highway 198 in Visalia.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 30-year-old man was under the influence when the collision took place on Sunday.
The incident began when Jose Cabrera was driving the wrong-way on Highway 198 in Visalia. He continued driving and traveled north in the southbound lanes of Highway 99.
Steffan Coulson, 36, Killed in Highway 99 Wreck
CHP said he then struck a Nissan going south at the time. The ABC 30 News and FOX 26 News wrote that the wreck occurred on April 17 at around 4:15 a.m.
The driver of the Nissan, 36-year-old Steffan Coulson, died at the scene. Family members setup a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral expenses.
Jose Cabrera ended up suffering from major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics took him to the Kaweah Health Medical Center for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP will charge Jose Cabrera on multiple felony charges, including DUI. The Fresno DUI crash is still under investigation.
