Cody Munsel and Sarah Splettstoesser Seriously Injured in Fresno Crash on Highway 99
FRESNO, CA (April 29, 2022) – A fatal car crash on Highway 99 left Cody Munsel and Sarah Splettstoesser seriously injured in Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol identified the couple as victims in the wreck which took place earlier this month.
The incident began when Cody Munsel, of Sonora, was driving a Toyota Corolla with Sarah Splettstoesser south on Highway 99 in Fresno. They were traveling with three children at the time.
A Dodge Ram traveling at an unsafe high rate of speed behind then approached. CHP said in the process, the pickup truck slammed into the rear of their car.
Girl, 11, Killed in Wreck
The speeding driver, 27-year-old Kingsburg resident Gerardo Ortiz Jr., failed to see the vehicles slowed or stopped in front of him. The two cars crashed near Clinton Avenue.
Cody Munsel, Sarah Splettstoesser and the three juveniles sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. CHP described the children as a 10-year-old boy and two girls, ages 11 and 12.
Paramedics rushed them to the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. The 11-year-old girl from Tulare soon died at the Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno.
The Union Democrat wrote that the accident occurred on April 1 at about 4:15 p.m. The cause of the Fresno crash is still under investigation.
