Bicycle Seriously Injured in Del Mar Heights Crash on Via De La Ville Road
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 25, 2023) – A bicycle rider was seriously injured after a crash on Via De La Ville Road in Del Mar Heights.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident took place late Friday night. Officers reported the collision on March 24 at about 11:55 p.m.
The incident happened when a 42-year-old man was riding a Cervelo ZHT bicycle in the No. 2 Lane of westbound Via De La Ville Road. A 2014 Ford MPV was traveling in the same direction at the time.
San Diego police said for an unknown reason, the minivan struck him. The vehicle hit the bicyclist just west of the Interstate 5 in the Del Mar Heights neighborhood.

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found the victim hurt. The cyclist sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident.
Medical personnel then rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment. The report did not disclose the name of the wounded party and his condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police did not mention if the 63-year-old man driving the Ford stopped or ended up hurt following the collision.
Officers forced a stretch of Via De La Ville Road to shut down after the incident. The cause of the Del Mar Heights bicycle crash is still under investigation.
