Andrew Burgher, 31, ID’d as Suspect in Goleta Fatal DUI Crash on Cathedral Oaks
GOLETA, CA (October 27, 2021) – Authorities detained Andrew Burgher after a fatal DUI crash on Cathedral Oaks Road in Goleta.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 31-year-old Santa Barbara man was under the influence when the wreck took place.
The incident happened on Tuesday when Andrew Raymond Burgher was driving a 2016 Toyota 4Runner at a high rate of speed in Goleta. He was traveling east on Cathedral Oaks Road at the time.
CHP said Andrew Burgher then struck the rear of a 2002 Ford Mustang. The Ford spun out of control and collided with two parked vehicles along the south curb.
2 Killed in Car Crash
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and extricated two trapped occupants in the Mustang from the wreckage. Both victims died at the scene.
Officers identified them as 40-year-old Santa Barbara resident Gilberto Arteaga-Gutierrez and the 45-year-old Lompoc resident Silvia Velasco.
Medical personnel took Andrew Burgher to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with minor injuries. The KSBY News and Noozhawk wrote that the accident occurred on October 26 at about 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, CHP arrested Andrew Burgher for murder and felony DUI causing bodily injury. They took him to the Santa Barbara County Jail in lieu of a $2 million bail.
