Pedestrian Andrew Tonken, 35, Killed in Oakland Crash at Piedmont and MacArthur
OAKLAND, CA (August 26, 2022) – Andrew Tonken was killed after a pedestrian crash at Piedmont Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland.
The coroner’s office identified the 35-year-old San Francisco man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Thursday.
The incident happened when Andrew Tonken was walking across West MacArthur Boulevard at Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.
At the same time, a 2016 Chrysler was traveling at high speed west on MacArthur. Police said the car then struck him in the marked crosswalk.
Speeding Driver Hits Man, Flees Scene
The East Bay Times wrote that the accident occurred on August 25 at about 4 p.m. Andrew Tonken sustained serious injuries as a result of the pedestrian collision.
Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he died. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the speeding driver fled the scene and went back to the site but failed to stop.
Officers soon stopped the woman driving the Chrysler and arrested her on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death.
The Oakland pedestrian crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 510-777-8570.
