Anthony Smith ID’d as Suspect in Fatal Camino Hit-and-Run Crash
CAMINO, CA (February 8, 2022) – Authorities detained Anthony Smith after a fatal hit-and-run crash on Carson Road in Camino.
The California Highway Patrol identified the Pollock Pines man as the suspect who killed a pedestrian in the collision on Tuesday.
The incident began when Anthony B. Smith was driving an SUV west on Carson Road, east of Barkley Road, in Camino. At the same time, a 14-year-old Camino girl was walking eastbound on the north shoulder of the road.
CHP said for an unknown reason, the car then struck the pedestrian. The Mountain Democrat and KCRA News wrote that the accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m.

Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the teen down on the ground. She sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel pronounced the girl dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Anthony Smith did not stop to help the victim and fled westbound on Carson toward Placerville.
CHP described his vehicle as a newer model white Honda CR-V with front bumper and windshield damage to the passenger side.
Officers located and arrested Anthony Smith on felony voluntary manslaughter following the hit-and-run crash. They booked him into the El Dorado County jail for DUI causing bodily injury.
Authorities set the bail at $250,000. The cause of the Camino hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
