1 Killed, 4 Injured in Antioch Crash on Somersville Road Near Highway 4
ANTIOCH, CA (May 25, 2021) – A car crash killed one person and injured several others on Somersville Road in Antioch.
According to the East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco, the tragic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 12:17 p.m.
The incident began when a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed along the 2000 block of Somersville Road from Buchanan Road.
Antioch police said its driver, a 73-year-old Antioch man, continued through the intersection of Delta Fair Boulevard and then crossed the median.
He slammed head-on into another car that was going south at the time. The impact forced his vehicle into another southbound car near Highway 4.
Multi-Car Collision Near Delta Fair Boulevard
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced an occupant in the speeding vehicle, a 68-year-old woman, dead at the scene.
The elderly driver sustained moderate injuries while his other passenger, a 56-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries. The two motorists in the southbound cars survived with minor wounds.
Medical personnel took the four patients to a hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released but officials identified all of them as Antioch residents.
Meanwhile, officials forced the off-ramps from both directions of Highway 4 at Somersville Road to shut down following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Antioch crash is still under investigation.
